My name is Clare, and I'm currently working as a design contractor for The Washington Post in Washington, D.C. I graduated in May 2017 from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in New York, with a bachelor's degree in magazine journalism and a double minor in music industry and fine arts (a combination of art and music history).
I spent last summer as a design intern for The Star Tribune in Minneapolis where I designed news and features. I also got a chance to design the front page, science and health section and inside A-section pages during my time there.
At Syracuse, I worked for The Daily Orange, the independent student-run newspaper. Some of my previous positions at The D.O. include presentation director, copy chief and feature editor. In 2016 I participated in two college journalism programs: VOICES, through the Asian American Journalists Association, and the Student Newsroom program through the Online News Association. All of these organizations mean a lot to me, and I'm grateful for the experiences I've had and connections I've made by my involvement in them.
I was born in the Philippines and raised in Los Angeles, where my family has lived for the past 15 years. When I'm not at work, I enjoy watching TV shows and movies, reading, playing the piano and ukulele, and listening to Pixar movie scores.
